Transitioning to Spring Fashion

This is a March of the Bloggers guest post!

Hey ladies! Today I have the pleasure of introducing the lovely Madeline today on our March of the Bloggers line up. The thing I love most about her blog is that it's all about being a girl on a budget, something that we take to heart here at Frock Stock! She's got an adorable sense of style and is here to show you how to easily go from your winter wardrobe to your new spring styles!

Transitioning to Spring Fashion
There are a few things in life that I have trouble waiting for: Christmas morning, my monthly Birchbox delivery and the much-anticipated arrival of spring fashion! Bring on the sundresses, sandals and bare legs!
It’s always around early March ― during the last dreary month of winter ― that I start dreaming about spring clothing.
Sadly, if you live in a chilly climate like Washington, DC, there’s no way you’ll be showing any skin during the month of March.
Or is there?
Do we really have to wait for the first day of spring to start wearing tank tops and breezy maxi skirts? I recently purchased a few spring pieces that I’m anxious [read: dying] to wear. I thought it would be fun to take 3 classic spring pieces and show how you can warm them up for the final weeks of winter. The key: it’s all about layering!

The Sundress
Make a sundress work in cold weather by adding a jean jacket, thick socks and a pair of boots. Bonus tip: apply self-tanner to those pasty knees! (I like Nivea Sun-Kissed Gradual Tan Moisturizer)

Dress – Express // Jean Jacket – Target // Boots – from Nashville, TN! // Socks – DSW
The Maxi Skirt
I’m looking forward to wearing sandals and a tank top with this maxi skirt, but in the mean time, a chambray shirt, infinity scarf and closed-toe flats make it March-appropriate.

Skirt – Express (on sale!) // Chambray Skirt – Express // Scarf – Charlotte Russe // Ruffled Flats – Steve Madden
The Tank Top
Yes, that’s a long sleeve tee under a tank top! I’m quite pleased with the sneakiness of this outfit. Plus, covering up your arms means you can get away with showing a little ankle.

Tank Top – Forever 21 // Tee – H&M // Cropped Chinos – Old Navy // Purse – Thrifted  // Necklace – LOFT

Yesterday in Chicago it went to 68F after being 29F the day before! I didn't know what to do with my wardrobe... this post is definitely a big help since it's going to be warm again today. Oh Chicago, your weather is crazy!

Let Madeline know which of her styles you loved best in the comment box! Every comment gives you a chance at free jewelry... And don't forget to visit her blog, too! Thank you Madeline for your lovely post!

Fashion on a Budget

This is a March of the Bloggers guest post!

"Fashion on a Budget"

It's my pleasure to introduce our third guest blogger of the month: Alyssa!

She's a gorgeous gal living in L.A. (my homeland!) and her style definitely oozes southern California fabulousness. On top of her style posts, Alyssa also likes to blog about health and beauty products.

A little bit more about Alyssa:

"My name is Alyssa. I am twenty years old. Small town born, being big city raised. I reside in Los Angeles where I am pursuing my dreams of becoming a child psychiatrist and model. Check out more of my musings at:

Ready for her post? I sure am!

Hey all! So the blog I manage is about individuality, confidence, and being a frugal fashionista. I love looking at outfits and finding them for less. I respect and idolize fashion designers, small or well-known. With student loans and LA living it is kind of hard to make room in my budget to spend hundreds of dollars on an outfit. Until I am a millionaire, I have to continue to drool over beautiful clothes through glass windows. Do not lose hope, though. With some serious thrifting, an outfit that you see on a celebrity, model, or mannequin can be yours without spending the money they did.

I pulled an outfit I saw on the runway. I took each piece of clothing the model was wearing, and found something out of my own closet that was similar. I then put them all together and created a runway look that still had a twist of my individuality. Take a look at my rendition and I hope to encourage you that you can still look like a model and rock out your outfit on the runway of life.

This is the runway look. I got the picture from www.fabsugar.com

The model is wearing a high collared blouse, with exaggerated sleeves that leave the arms bare. The look is sexy, but in a tasteful way.

Long maxi skirts are my favorite right now. They can basically be worn with anything when styled right.

The look is then topped off with some funky heels that add a twist to the black and white outfit.

My Rendition

I love love love prints. So of course I had to bring my own individuality into this look. The blouse I chose is print with laced sleeves to again, exaggerate my bare arms without being too revealing. It is also high collared. I of course have my maxi skirt, which every girl should have in her closet! No matter the color. Lucky for me I had black to complete this look. I added a belt to emphasize my waistline. Finally, I chose some funky heels that still complemented my outfit.

Blouse: $8.50 - Target
Belt: $2.75 - Macy’s
Skirt: $11.95 - Macy's
Shoes: $35.00 - Shoedazzle

A four-itemed outfit that I put together for under 60 dollars.

Happy Reading!

Is anyone else here jealous of Alyssa's shoes? They are beautiful! I love that she was able to make such a great outfit on a budget! There is hope for all us budgeting girls yet!

Skirts, Gloves, and Penguins, Oh My!

Hey girlies. :) It was a beautiful fall day here in Chicago today so I just had to put on my Wanderer Skirt (featured in our last blog post) so I could show you ladies how pretty it is.

I modeled my look after the "warm and cozy" styling I showed you before. Chunky sweater, adorable booties, and a pendant all make this skirt pop.

In addition to the Wanderer Skirt, I had to show you my newest personal gem. Went on a thrifting adventure yesterday and found this ADORABLE leather purse for only $5! What an incredible find... :)

Again, you can find the Wanderer Skirt here on Frock Stock for only $29.

What else have I been tweeting about lately? Hmm.. Oh yes, penguins... in sweaters???

Aren't they soooo cute!? Apparently these little guys have been badly affected by the oil spill in New Zealand and some clever crafters are helping save them by making them sweaters. Not sure how long they'll be needing them, but I wanted to appeal to all you crafters to see if you can help these little guys. The full article can be found here.

Fingerless gloves are the most popular item on our site right now, so we made sure to stock up this weekend on our beige/pink and grey/black gloves you all love so much. Ended up finding some adorable green ones, too! Shop gloves and accessories!

And now it's time for me to wind down and get ready for the week. (Though it seems like the weekend only just started...) Hope you all had a lovely weekend and have an even better week! :)

The Wanderer Skirt

We're in love with the maxi skirt this fall, which is why we've brought you the Wanderer Skirt (only $29) to our collection!

Why we love this:

Wine is one of the most gorgeous colors this fall. Fall is about muted earth tones, so it can get quite drab at times, but wine is one of the most vibrant of all these colors.

The way this skirt flows is almost ethereal. The crumpled texture flows when you walk, making your steps look floaty and effortless.

The asymmetry is quirky and again gives the back that flowing look. The front gives you a chance to show off your fabulous fall boots!

The price, duh! Our site is about getting you a good deal which is why this skirt is under $30. The cheapest non-sale maxi skirt on Modcloth is $35 and goes all the way up to $275! $59 is the cheapest at Urban Outfitters, up to $275 again. Why pay more when the Wanderer Skirt is just as (if not more) gorgeous than those finds?

And finally... maxi skirts. Do we need a reason for why these are fabulous? You still get to wear a skirt without freezing, it's one of the greatest fall trends right now, and you can wear it almost any way. We don't need more convincing.

Now, let's style it!

Our inspirations:

(These looks come from fall 2011 lookbooks by Anthropologie, Zara, Urban Outfitters, and Asos.)

This skirt is sooo versatile, so we've decided to style it two different ways instead of just one, and it's definitely not limited to these two.

Style #1: Warm and Cozy

With this chunky sweater from H&M and these fabulous pilot booties from DSW you'll be warm, comfy, and stylish this fall. A long necklace helps fill up all that chunky sweater space and the knee highs will keep you cozy as well. The length of the sweater doesn't matter - cropped, regular, and long all look good with the Wanderer Skirt. The asymmetry of the skirt will definitely help you show off your boots, unlike other maxis skirts that might hide them. Don't forget to grab a warm tumbler of tea to carry with you on your chilly fall wanderings.

Style #2: Feminine Ethereal

Anything lacy or sheer on top will dress up this feminine skirt. We like this blouse from Madewell because of the trendy Peter Pan collar on it. Add some oxford heels, pearls, and pastel colors to keep this look sweet and girly.

Alright, Frock Stock ladies! What do you think of the Wanderer Skirt? Let us know in the comment box if you love it or hate it and have a wonderful Monday!
