Jewelry Giveaway

Hey fashionistas! Own a Pinterest? Get ready for a Pinterest-inspired jewelry giveaway!

I'm a HUGE Pinterest fan nowadays and you can see some beautiful fashion-inspired boards I've been making such as Collar LoveBraided Hairstyles, and "How to Wear an Ascot."

I'm doing these boards not just to support Frock Stock, but also as a micro picture blog experiment. (So instead of doing a post about ascots, I'm giving tips through a photo collage.)

If you're already a fan of the blog or the site, I wanted to encourage you to follow my Pinterest as well so you can share in the tips. That's why I'm deciding to give away a jewelry item of your choice next Monday, November 5th* if you follow these simple steps:

1) Follow the Frock Stock Pinterest page (if you're already a follower, skip to step 2)
2) Pin five of your favorite Frock Stock pieces and five of your favorite non-Frock Stock images from one of Frock Stock's pinspiration boards to your Pinterest
3) Check back in here with your Pinterest name to let me know you've entered and tell us all what your favorite Frock Stock board is!

...After that, one of Frock Stock's new lovely jewelry pieces could be yours! (Picked at random.)

*My goal is to take the page from its 919 followers to at least 1,000 by the end of Sunday, November 4th. If the goal hasn't been met, then the giveaway will be extended until the number is reached. Please encourage your friends to participate!

Lots of love,
Loren (Owner of Frock Stock)

How to Wear an Ascot

How to Wear an Ascot

Ascot, neck tie, neck scarf... whatever you want to call it, there's a million ways to wear it!

If you've never seen what I'm calling an "ascot" - it's an essential piece of retro clothing that you must familiarize yourself with!

Frock Stock has four new adorable ascots in stock. We plan to keep up the ascot trend, even after these sell out, so look forward to new prints and your favorites getting restocked if you miss out!

Delightful Dots Ascot in Yellow $9.99

Cupcake Ascot $9.99

Dijon Ascot $9.99
Delightful Dots Ascot in Navy $9.99

So how do you wear the thing? There are SO many ways - you can get as creative as you like. Here are my top three, illustrated with pictures taken from Pinterest.

#1 Under a collared shirt

This is my absolute favorite way to wear an ascot. Simply tie it under any style collar either as just a loose knot, a loose bow, or a very prim bow. It'll brighten up any plain blouse you have.

#2 Around the neck, vintage style!

This is the most retro way to wear it. You may have seen tons of photos from the 50s of girls wearing this style. Wrap the ascot around your neck twice and tie in a knot.

#3 As a hair ribbon

Charm up your hair this fall with an adorable ribbon tied around your ponytail. Just pony your hair as you normally would then tie the ascot in a bow around it!

So tell me, ladies. Do you love or hate the ascot?

How would YOU wear your ascot? Please share with our Frock Stalkers your ideas so they can have more versatility with their new ascots!

Spring Adventures

Has anybody been up to any fun spring adventures? While April was quite gloomy in Chicago, the first few days of May have been filled with some warmer weather and beautiful thunder storms. I've spent the last weekend taking pictures of tulips in the city, dressing up, and walking dogs in the countryside. Here's my weekend in photos:

Tell me about your spring adventures thus far!

Eco Friendly Purses

Let's get Eco Friendly!

As many of you know, Earth Day is being celebrated tomorrow!

While Earth Day is not your widely publicized big-name holiday, it holds an extremely important significance in our modern day society and is not a day that should be passed over lightly.

At Frock Stock we know the fashion industry has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to being eco and socially friendly to the world. Whenever possible, we are committed to purchasing brands that hold these standards high. This is why we're proud to announce a new purse collection coming soon to Frock Stock!

Shiraleah Purses at Frock Stock

While you may or may not have heard of Shiraleah, it is a brand that everyone should keep their eye on. With its effortless designs and beautiful fabrics, it's no wonder that Shiraleah is being offered now at big name places like ShoeMall, Alternative Outfitters, Sears, and even... Target! Yes, that's right. This brand is both amazing and extremely affordable!

What you need to know about Shiraleah...

  • Shiraleah products use "renewable natural resources, reclaimed materials, and environmentally friendly technologies"
  • Shiraleah is dedicated to promoting socially friendly practices within its company and works directly with local artisans to ensure quality products
  • Shiraleah donates 3% of its handbag purchases to a center for disabled children in Hanoi, Vietnam

Eco Friendly and Stylish!

We LOVE the Shiraleah purses we've ordered. Cool color blocking, fresh takes on vintage, and fun summer colors are the major players in our new collection! Here's some of our favorite pieces:

We're hoping to get these pieces in about 2-3 weeks from now. Be sure to sign up for our e-mail updates to get immediate notice when they come in! Once they're here we'll be creating a special "Eco Friendly" section on the site where you can view them.

P.S. What are you ladies planning for Earth Day? I'm going to help a friend do some gardening today and wear lots of green tomorrow!

Paper Heart Vintage Photography

This is a March of the Bloggers guest post!

"Paper Heart Vintage Photography"

by Nina of Shop Talk

***

Alright my dears, it's the last day of March of the Bloggers. And while I'll say a tearful goodbye at the jewelry giveaway tonight, let's enjoy this last blogger to the fullest!

Today's guest blogger is Nina, a big time blogger for Newsday. Her blog "Shop Talk" is all about "style and sample sales, fashion, and fun" - it doesn't get better than that! Her blog today is a feature of a beautiful photography company known as Paper Heart Vintage Photography. You got us hooked at the word "vintage," Nina!

***

I've been a fan of Paper Heart Vintage Photography for a while now-- the magical scenery, adorable accessories and, most importantly, perfect moments they capture between people make it impossible not to be.

But it wasn't until I went for a photo shoot myself that I could truly appreciate the dynamic that makes the company such a success. Karen Ruffini, 22, and Tina Lohan, 23, friends since they studied together at Dowling College in Oakdale, NY, created Paper Heart over a mutual love for photography and vintage wardrobes.

"I love lace, satin, bows--anything ultra feminine and vintage inspired is basically the entire set-up of my closet," says Karen. "We tend to work with our clients on what they wear to our shoot--because we stress the fact that a beautiful outfit can completely turn a picture into this remarkable piece of art."

So before I showed up for my shoot, I knew I better dress to impress. I went with a white "Tulip" dress from Zara, a chunky turquoise necklace and some wedges, jokingly warning Karen beforehand that I was coming looking like a 1950s housewife. Apparently this sparked an idea in her head. "I know the perfect place!" she told me.

Next thing I knew I was hanging from the side of an old-fashioned railroad car at the Wantagh Railroad Museum-- a beautiful little spot restored from the early 20th century that I had passed plenty of times but never noticed.

Karen and Tina took care of the rest-- somehow molding my boyfriend Nick and I into another one of their works of art. Looking at the finished product, you'd never guess I had to bribe him with a new pair of shoes to get him out of his bed that morning.

Though they're based on Long Island, the girls travel up and down the East Coast for events shooting every thing from weddings and engagements to babies and portraits. Portraits are $500 and prices vary depending on the shoot. To schedule a photo shoot, email lovepaperhearts@gmail.com. To learn more, visit lovepaperhearts.wordpress.com orfacebook.com/paperheartsphotography.

These photos are simply gorgeous. More and more I'm wanting a vintage wedding one day. Thanks so much to Nina for this LOVELY feature and for joining us here at Frock Stock! Make sure you check out her blog and leave comments for her and the lovely PHVP company. (This is your last chance to comment and win jewelry! Tonight is the jewelry giveaway! Don't forget to leave your @twittername or e-mail.)

Last but not least, a reminder to all bloggers that the 40% off discount code expires TONIGHT at 11:59 PM PST. So if you haven't already placed your orders, make sure you do so! You'll want to boost up your wardrobe for all your spring and summer style posts! There's still time left for those who don't have the code. Just make sure you check out this page first and shoot me an e-mail at frockstock@gmail.com

Already ladies, until tonight! See ya then!

Modesty is the Best Policy

This is a March of the Bloggers guest post!

"Modesty is the Best Policy"

by Allison of Clearing Preppy's Name

***

It's Friday! But before you get your outfits ready for drinks tonight, we've got a really important post about staying classy.

Allison runs a style blog with a mission: to clear the tainted name of preppy fashion! Shows like Gossip Girl, Mean Girls, etc. have all associated prep style with the elite and cliquey. What a shame! She devotes her blog to showing you her favorite style and why any girl can look fabulous in it.

Today's mission: Addressing modesty and staying classy. Let's read!

***

Modesty is the best policy.
Hello frock stock darlings & preppy blog followers”

It is lovely to have this honor of typing for you today.

Pay attention. Maybe even take notes.

It is my pleasure to discuss the topic of modesty with you, in a way that is so unlike your sixth grade health teacher, you’ll love it.
I am here to pronounce you a princess.
A stylish, sophisticated, well deserving girl of the title.

Princess (insert name here).
Princesses throughout history have been icons for the every day girl. Both with impeccable fashion sense and the man candy to carry around on her arm, why wouldn’t she be?
From Cinderella to Ariel, they’ve dealt with tough times and still look flawless during their happy endings.
How do they do it, you ask?
Well…
If Cinderella can get her Prince Charming without taking her dress off, then so can you.
Plain and simple.
The princesses have always had standards. They may have to deal with a little longer wait (like Rapunzel) or the might have to work harder to get there (like Cinderella), but they can look glamorous with their small amounts of décolletage and lengthy hemlines. Those wonderful traits accompanied by the right guy and respect from their kingdom make a princess like no other.

A modern day girl can obtain almost everything a fairy tale princess has with standards. She can look beautiful, while leaving something to the imagination. It’s a great skill to have, and easy to do with the assistance of stores like Frock Stock. You don’t need to look frumpy to be modest. In my blog www.clearingpreppysname.wordpress.com I state that I am determined to clear preppy’s name, or in other words, its tainted reputation. In this guest blog entry, I was determined to clear modesty’s name.
You can look cute and modest. I am sure Cinderella had to keep in mind her fairy Godmother’s approval at the ball, and look where she ended up. She looked stunning and won over a man, a great optional accessory.
For more princess worthy information subscribe to my blog www.clearingpreppysname.wordpress.com.

Love, Allison.

I agree wholeheartedly with this post. It's important to stay true to yourself and keep it CLASSY! You'll get better jobs, have a better reputation, and feel better about yourself if you remember that you can look beautiful if you dress modestly.

Thankfully vintage fashion and prep fashion both have that quality. You can look stylish and adorable in these styles and keep your dignity.

Thanks Allison for addressing this sometimes controversial subject! Be sure to visit her blog and leave some comments for a chance to win free jewelry.

What do you think about dressing "modestly"?
